Tom Tucek is currently working at the University of Klagenfurt as a university assistant.
He teaches and researches video games, with a special focus on representation, ethics, Japanese games, and microtransactions.

Tom was born and raised in Vienna, Austria, where he went to a technical highschool to learn programming at the age of 14.
Afterwards, he received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the Technical University of Vienna and a Bachelor of Arts in Japanese Studies from the University of Vienna.
He also spent one year as an exchange student at Osaka University in Japan, where he absolved the Maple programme and worked as a web developer.
The journey continued to Klagenfurt, Austria, where he finished his Master of Science in Game Studies and Engineering.
After graduating, he was teaching various classes for the same programme. He got accepted as a university assistant soon afterwards, aiming for a PhD.

Tom loves videogames, with a special focus on roleplaying games and narrative experiences.
His favourite games include Fallout: New Vegas, NieR: Automata, and Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age.
On a more ludic side, he also enjoys rogue-likes and deck-building games, such as Slay the Spire, Vault of the Void, or the physical trading card game Flesh and Blood.

Aside from playing, researching, thinking and talking about video games, Tom's hobbies include cycling, reading, cooking, and Japanese calligraphy.
